Your point is mostly right, except that the closer we travel to the speed of light, the shorter distances become. If we could really travel that fast, relativity tells us we would instantly arrive, at least from our perspective. That would eliminate the need to be frozen!

Of course, if we travel more slowly then we cannot benefit from this effect and would need some way to be in stasis.
