This article could have been far shorter. And I don't fully agree with the answer. Yes, you should have to be interesting to have a big following, but its not the reality. There are plenty of uninteresting people out there that have huge followings. There are plenty of people out there that haven't lived, but gain a following by being negative, criticising people, or by running with some oversimplistic but easily understood viewpoint. Being interesting isn't enough, or even necessary. Truth is, a lot of writing is about who you know, and who you tweet with, not what you know or what you do.
