Thanks for taking the time to respond. As you say, advanced aliens may not have much interest in fighting us or enslaving us. In Cixin Liu's book, which I based the article on, aliens don't bother with a real fight. According to his Dark Forest theory, any other civilization, no matter how weak, is a potential threat to any other one. The logical response is to wipe out any civilization encountered by a single devastating strike. I'd recommend reading his books, starting with The Three Body Problem, as he goes into the idea in much more depth.
